AF Advisors’ partner Jasper Haak has analyzed the impact of AIFMD, three years after its introduction.
Even though the regulation was intended to cover alternative asset classes like private equity and hedge funds, in practice more than half of the granted licenses in the Netherlands relate to traditional investments. Jasper concludes that the main advantage of the AIFMD regulation has been that insurers, pension administrators and asset managers now have more professional structures and organizations in place. This has helped them in preparing for additional legislative requirements, like MiFID II.
