Non-specialised asset managers are expected to have a tough time the coming years, due to a lack of focus on specific markets or segments. This will trigger further consolidation in the asset management industry says Jasper Haak, managing partner at AF Advisors. Haak states that future asset managers either need a specialized product offering or a large size. Therefore, the latter of these will increasingly focus on brand awareness, as well as opportunities to cut costs. Moreover, larger asset managers will seek for acquisition targets, which will broaden their product offering.
